@ Home

Yum, Mama made me pancakes for breakfast!

Just sitting in my Elmo chair, and doing the alphabet.
Daddy taught me the letters "M," "O," "A" and "B"

Just hanging out... watching some late night TV

It's amazing to me that Maiya is going to be two years old this week. She is more animated and talkative every day. She has an amazing memory and loves pulling out toys and dragging them from room to room. Everywhere I am, she wants to be. Today, Playdough was the fun of the day. Lately, she has been helping Tony make dinner, and it is so cute how she wants to be involved in whatever we are doing. Whining has become frequent, as she always knows what she wants, but doesn't have all the words yet to go with it. Luckily, she is good at sign language, pantomime and pointing, and we most often can figure out what it is that she wants. She is full of energy, running throughout the house, yelling and squealing. While it's exhausting, it is my greatest joy to watch her play.

@ Play

Here are some recent pictures of Maiya at play. I've been trying to go to the park or somewhere every week either on my day off or on the weekend. We've been enjoying our little outings. Maiya loves playing in the sandbox, riding down the slide, and running around the park. Last weekend we went to the Marina park to see the boats, but what really got her boat was running around and chasing the seagulls and pigeons.

Maiya's New Bed

On New Year's Day, Tony was talking to our friends Evelyn and Bruce about when they transitioned Naomi (now 26 years old) to either a toddler bed or twin bed. Bruce said, "I don't remember when she got her own bed, but funny you should ask, because we just took down her bed 3 days ago. It's in the garage. Do you want it?" So, Maiya got herself a new bed that we set up last weekend. So big thanks to Naomi, Bruce and Evelyn.

Here's Daddy interviewing Maiya after setting up her new bed.

And, a photo of her 10 minutes after falling asleep the first night. Note the 3 monkeys in bed with her.

After a week, we're using the new bed about half the time. Since we're still night nursing most nights and we're still a co-sleeping family, just in different configurations throughout the night.

I'd be interested in knowing other people's ideas about the family bed, when they transitioned toddlers to their own bed, and things like that. We're doing this by instinct, and it seems to be working for us.

Dance Especial

Ignore the messy living room and enjoy the latin dancing from last night. Bravo!

The awesome music is Roxy Especial, the song is Luna. Pop with a Funky Latin Flava, Tony knows her mom. It's our new favorite!

More New Year's Pix

New Year's Day at my Auntie's house. Afterwards, Roxane took Hiroko and I to see Dreamgirls! It was fantastic. I went to see it again yesterday with my oldest friend Maria, who I saw the play with back in the early 80s at the Schubert. My first time to see a movie in 2 years, and I see it twice in one week!

9 cousins and 2nd cousins make it fun!

3 generations: Jayne, Auntie Kaz and baby Kimiko

Maiya rides a tricycle

Then, a visit from baby Tula, Emily and Scott from Detroit
